2011 Sendai Disaster: On John Pavlus’ Article

I read a rather sobering article by writer John Pavlus, who gently outlines his thoughts over the creative response in memorialising the recent Japanese earthquake and tsunami. Needless to say, the article didn’t sit well with some. In spite of the backlash, Pavlus’ bold move provided a much-needed wake-up call to re-examine the motivations of designers in the face of disaster.

FIFA World Cup 2010: A Reflection

This year’s World Cup had a historical end, Spain emerging victorious. The world was not united in emotion, though; some mourned, some rejoiced. But once again, I witness the engagement of football fans into a collective spirit. It is one filled with emotion, unspecific to creed, nationality, race, walk of life, or choice of team for the World Cup Final. In the midst of it all, I share some of my personal observations — and a word or seven about that blasted octopus.

My Definition of Home

The Third Cultured Friendship

Several months ago, I read an article plugged on someone’s Facebook profile summarising the results of a decade-long study about the connection between friendships and our overall well-being. The article particularly highlighted the effects of long-term friendships that transcended distance and location, which triggered me to find the personal connections between the individuals I consider friends.
